this reminds me of an old episode of america's funniest home videos. bob saget explained that he was going to help everyone who was fed up with their vcr flashing 12:00 by showing them how to fix this annoying problem. then, he promptly made a big show of cutting off a piece of electric tape and pasting it over the lcd screen of the vcr - to much applause.
